12th February - playing a part

Today was a friend’s birthday and the plan was to go to the pub to watch international rugby and then a curry.

As these things usually happen, the women get to all sit together and the men stand at the bar and drink beer.

I was kind of lost in the middle somewhere, unable to be one of the girls but not one of the guys either. I actually watched the game and didn’t really get involved in either conversation.

This is exactly the sort of occasion I have in mind when I talk about the social reasons why I want to be seen and accepted as a woman.

Not that I have anything against this group of men, some of them are quite nice, but I’m just not really one of them.
